"Fog," BY CARL SANDBURG
The fog comes on little cat feet. It sits looking over harbor and city on silent haunches and then moves on.
This short poem by Carl Sandburg was in one of my high school literature books. Because of it, my view of a fog-filled night and early morning make me think of a gray cat silently coming in and sitting atop a board fence through the night. Then, as the sun breaks the horizon, it steals away in silence. As I look out the window from my back porch, the fog lies in silence over the wooded area behind my house; and, from the recesses of my memory came this Sandburg poem. By the time the sun fills the sky, the fog will, in complete silence, disappear as if it was never here at all.
Our problems are a lot like fog.
When problems wrap around our world, they seem to envelope our life and soul. And this fog of soul will enhance our fears as it seems never to go away. But when the light of God’s Word begins to shine through the fog of our problems and fear, it drives them away. The damp hand we once felt covering us is loosened, and our soul is set free.
The promises of God’s Word will burn away the fog of our fear as surely as sun light drives away the fog of night.
2 Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
