Proverbs 6:6-8 “Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.”

Proverbs 30:25-31 “The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces. There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going: A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any; A greyhound; a he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.”

The Scripture has much to say about life lessons we can learn from the world of nature; lessons we can learn from the smallest to the greatest of God's creations.

Minister John Todd once related the true story of an old mother eagle who had built her nest at the very top of a century-old tulip tree. He described the tree as gigantic and the “Fishing eagle” had built her nest there year after year. The tree stood a good ten miles from the ocean shore. On one particular day a group of workers stood watch the mother eagle head to the seashore to get food for her young and return with a very large fish. Some of the men stood by her tree and started yelling and throwing stones up at her. She became so frightened, she dropped the fish, which the men carried off.

A young man named Joseph stayed behind, curious to see what the Eagle would do. To the young man it seemed that the mother eagle was trying to figure out what to do about feeding her young. After a few minutes she spread her wings and headed back to the seashore. After an absence of about two hours, she returned carrying an even bigger fish than the first; a heavier load which she struggled to carry. Drooping, faint, and nearly exhausted, she circled the nest and, finding it safe, she landed and fed her family.

Joseph cried out, “Glorious bird, What a spirit!  Glorious bird!" He learned that day that almost any obstacle can be surmounted. After watching that mother eagle, Joseph purposed in his heart that he would set his marks high; marks that he would never yield to discouragement. A good lesson learned.

Yes, we can learn much from watching God’s creation! Never miss an opportunity to learn what God has to teach you in His wonderful world of nature.
