“Looking unto Jesus…” (Hebrews 12:2a)

Are you weary of the ugly events around you? Look to Jesus, the one portrayed as “altogether lovely” (Song of Solomon 5:16).

Do you fret about being lost in the cosmic shuffle, too small to matter, just another face in the crowd? Look to Jesus, the one who vowed that “the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Luke 12:7).

Are you paralyzed over your past life? Look to Jesus, the one who chose a fanatical terrorist determined to overthrow Roman occupation by violence–Simon Zelotes–to be one of his original disciples (Luke 6:15, Acts 1:13).

Are you angry that life is much different from what it used to be? Look to Jesus, the one who is “the same yesterday, and today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

Are you afraid of what enemies of the gospel might do to you? Look to Jesus, the one who urged you not to fear those who “kill the body, and after that have no more they can do” (Luke 12:4).

Do you worry that you will face hardships in the future? Look to Jesus, the one who embodies the shepherd whose care caused David to declare, “I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

Do you fear being left alone? Look to Jesus, the one who promised to be “with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20).

Are you frustrated over sin that defeats you? Look to Jesus, the one who sympathizes with your weaknesses because he “was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15).

Do you struggle in your faith? Look to Jesus, “the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2).

Whatever it is, look to Jesus.
