And all wept, and bewailed her: but [Jesus] said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway…” (Luke 8:52-55)
The Lord Jesus knew that nobody would understand. The crowd had laughed when He had said Jairus’s daughter was only sleeping. They knew she was dead and wondered what was wrong with Jesus. Sometimes the divine Son of God simply took action and didn’t explain. This was such a time. Others meant well, but only Jesus could make this matter right.
Who can calm you when you are frightened out of your wits? Others mean well, but only Jesus can calm you as He once calmed a storm and a ship full of terrified disciples. (Mark 4:35-41)
Who can lift your spirit when you are sure that hope is gone? Others mean well, but only Jesus can lift you as He once lifted Peter after Peter had denied Christ–three times–before the crucifixion. (Matthew 26:69-75) When Jesus lifted Peter’s spirit and the Holy Spirit empowered him, Peter thundered forth the sermon at Pentecost only a short time after he had denied Christ. (Acts 2:14-40)
Who can make you a new creature after you have fought against God? Others mean well, but only Jesus can accomplish your being born all over again as He once gave Saul of Tarsus new birth after Saul had persecuted the church and Jesus Himself. (Acts 9:1-18)
Who can comfort you, motivate you, correct you, instruct you, restore you, and forgive you? Others mean well, but only Jesus never leaves you. He keeps His promise to His own, “...I am with you alway.” (Matthew 28:20)
Broken-hearted? Abandoned? Defeated? Confused? Fearful? Weary? Hurt? Lost? Only Jesus can meet you where you are and give you new and abundant life in Him now and eternal life to come. He won’t reject you. (John 6:37)
Only Jesus.
