Evolution's Fruit

Evolution's Fruit

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

A young Ukrainian woman, Iryna Zarutska, was brutally murdered on a train in North Carolina. Nineteen days later, Charlie Kirk, noted Christian apologist, was gunned down as he answered questions posed by college students in Utah. The horror of these two events should cause us to reflect on many things. Among them is this: What is the result of generations of belief in evolution? In other words, what is evolution’s fruit?

First, believing in evolution has devalued life. Belief in creation means that an argument may rise to anger. Long-term belief in evolution, however, increasingly ends in assault or even death. To the evolutionist who carries matters to their godless conclusions, getting cut off in traffic, insulted in public, or overlooked for a promotion justifies killing. Believing in evolution means that people are thought to be of no more value than animals. That’s rotten fruit.

Second, believing in evolution has downplayed accountability. Creation insists that people are ultimately accountable to God. Evolution insists that people are ultimately unaccountable–or accountable only to themselves. When such belief continues for generations, undoing it is hard. That’s toxic fruit.

Third, believing in evolution has exalted self. Having devalued life and downplayed accountability, today’s evolutionist thinks he has nowhere to turn except to self. If we are in “the last days” (2 Timothy 3:1), then love of self is a sure indicator. “For men shall be lovers of theirown selves...”. (2 Timothy 3:2). That’s deadly fruit.

Rejection of God’s Word and the gospel of Christ account for the doomed status of the unbeliever. Belief in evolution is a terrible symptom of that awful condition. Don’t despair, though, at the seriousness of the situation. You have placed trust in Christ for salvation? Then put aside the dangerous fruit of belief in evolution. You have not placed trust in Christ? Trust Him now, and don’t let any bad fruit (including evolution) mislead you into damnation.

There is hope. The ancient Ninevites were among the most violent unbelievers who have ever lived, but the Holy Spirit convicted and converted their hardened hearts. See the Book of Jonah in the Bible for the thrilling account of their repentance. Who knows? The Ninevites around us may respond to the gospel as those Ninevites did. That would be sweet fruit.
